A Room Full Of Male Scientists Agree…

Published on December 17, 2009

According to the Telegraph, scientists have declared that men should marry women who are younger and smarter than themselves. The article is a little short on the details but I did find another article stating that men who marry younger women live longer.

While I find articles like this interesting, it always seems like a new group of scientists is coming out with a new metric that will determine the success of a relationship. Finding someone you click with is often a task all on it’s own. If we had to follow the advice we found from every study, we’d never meet anyone that was qualified! I bring this up because while the article is interesting I don’t want my readers to blindly adopt some rules just because a study says they should (this study or any other). I have always believed that as individuals we have to decide what is best for us. Aside from not being the best way to judge another person, asking your date her age and IQ is only good for ending the date early. I’m not arguing the study is without value. I’m just saying that personally I read these types of studies for entertainment, not education. Dating a younger, smarter woman is fine but I don’t think it should be the only, or even the primary, measure of the relationship.

I still find it funny that they decided young, smart women is what a man needs. I guess they were afraid that if they included “pretty” they wouldn’t have been taken seriously because that’s all they seem to be missing! Who knows…maybe eHarmony, Chemistry.com and the other matching services are actually trying to match younger, smarter women with older, dumber guys…but somehow I doubt it.
