The Risk of Trusting Quickly

Published on October 29, 2007

While online dating is bringing more and more people dating success everyday, there is another reminder in the news that caution should be exercised. In this story, an Australian man flew to Mali to meet his “bride” only to be taken hostage. While this is horrible, it seems the man from the article isn’t the typical online dater (as the article states, he made a similar trip to Russia in the past also looking for a bride). In another case that was in the news this week, a woman was killed when responding to an add on Craigslist for the position of a nanny. While this has nothing to do with online dating, I hope it re-emphasizes that everyone should use due diligence when meeting anyone from the internet.
