Introduction to Speed Dating
Published on October 1, 2007
Here’s is a nice introduction to speed dating. I never tried speed dating but the article makes it sound worth a try. I also enjoyed the beginning of the article because it reminded me of those bad dates I had to suffer through…and he’s right: at least with speed dating when things are bad, you’ve only 5 more minutes to deal with.
As I mention in the online dating guide, to have success in dating you either need to be very lucky or very active (although I suppose extraordinarily rich/attractive would work, too. I’ve no experience with being either!). If you have found internet dating overly painful, perhaps speed dating will get you on track. Even if you are enjoying some success with online dating, the experience that speed dating could provide might prove quite valuable (particularly with breaking the ice). Below are a few resources I found for speed dating:
- 8minutedating.com: A site for signing up and learning more about speed dating events.
- Wikipedia Entry: I realize this might seem not worth listing but give it a read! At the very least read the Scientific Research section. For example, it talks about twins who went on speed dating where one use pheromones (found in almost all cologne and perfume) and the other did not. The one with faired much better (so make sure you smell good!). Plus, the history of speed dating might provide for good conversation if you ever try it!
- Breaking the Ice: An article that discusses speed dating and the importance of conversation with so little time.
- 45 Questions: A list of recommended questions to have ready when speed dating.
Also, if anyone has experience with speed dating and has any tips, I’d love to hear from you.
